Atlas Pet Vets Medical Rescue Fund
Together with the Veterinary Care Foundation, a 501(c)(3) partnership, we established the Atlas Pet Vets Medical Rescue Fund. This dedicated fund allows us to provide necessary medical support to animals in local shelters and rescue organizations that are often overlooked.
For every qualifying case, Atlas Pet Vets will donate a portion of medical care while the fund will help cover the remaining costs of treatment for pets we save where lifesaving care would otherwise be out of reach. Together, we can save more lives, help more animals heal, and find loving forever homes.

Rex
Rex is a media star! In case you missed it, he was just featured on Fox4 News and stole the show. He is a 9-week-old puppy who was rescued from the Dallas Animal Services euthanasia list due to severe deformities affecting both front legs. His condition is believed to be a combination of congenital abnormalities and previous trauma. His right front leg has a significant deformity of the carpus (wrist), causing it to rotate and twist abnormally, along with a malformed humerus that did not develop properly. His left front leg has a length discrepancy between the radius and ulna (forearm), resulting in abnormal rotation of the wrist. These deformities make it difficult for Rex to walk comfortably on either leg. The plan is to perform advanced imaging to further evaluate his left leg and determine whether surgical correction is possible, while also exploring creative treatment options to improve the function of his right leg.
Hero
Hero was found severely injured outside, presumably after being hit by a car. He was brought to a shelter, where he sat for days without anyone coming to claim him. Hero couldn’t stand or walk and was scheduled for euthanasia. Hero was transported three hours to Atlas Pet Vets and the doctors immediately started pain control, wound care, and IV fluids. He suffered devastating injuries, including a shattered femur, humerus, and complete luxation of his opposite hip.
Hero is Walking Again! Hero underwent three major orthopedic surgeries to give him a chance to get back on his feet. After everything he has endured, seeing him take his first steps again has been an incredible moment for our entire team. His treatment will still require a tremendous amount of medications, surgical implants and equipment, anesthesia, intensive monitoring, and specialized rehabilitation equipment, including a lift and secure harness system to safely begin his physical therapy.
Sunshine
Sunshine was found as a stray in heartbreaking condition, with almost no hair left on his body. He was riddled with multiple infections and parasites that left him unbearably itchy, causing him to scratch his skin raw and develop painful wounds all over his body. Despite everything he has endured, Sunshine remains a kind and gentle puppy. With intensive treatment, his skin is looking better every day, and he is finally able to rest comfortably. His fur and skin will take time to heal fully and with support from the Medical Rescue Fund he is now getting the care he needs.
Rune
This 4-week-old kitten was born with bilateral flexural tendon contractures affecting both hind legs, most likely caused by overcrowding in the womb. To give this little one the best chance at normal mobility, intensive rehabilitation will be needed around the clock, along with custom splinting to gradually correct the deformities. Early intervention is critical, as treatment must be completed before the growth plates permanently close to achieve the best possible outcome.
Thanks to your support, Rune is making great progress. Watch him walk around the treatment area in his daily physical therapy sessions.
Our Success Stories
Shark
Shark is a 6-week-old kitten who presented with a history of significant, but unknown, trauma to both front legs. Unfortunately, his right front leg had to be amputated due to irreversible radial nerve damage. His left front leg also sustained a chronic fracture of the upper forelimb (humerus). Following his amputation, our focus is on rehabilitating his left front leg to maximize its function. Surgical correction may also be considered in the future to improve his long-term mobility and help avoid the need for bilateral forelimb amputations.
Butter
Butter was rescued from a city shelter after being scheduled for euthanasia with a life-threatening diaphragmatic hernia, likely caused by severe trauma. Her abdominal organs had shifted into her chest, forcing her to fight for every breath. The doctors at Atlas Pet Vets performed advanced anesthesia and emergency surgery to return her organs to their proper position while repairing her diaphragm. Today, Butter is healthy, happy, and living the life she deserves with her forever family.
Indy
After surviving an animal attack, Indy was found alone on the street with severe wounds. Terrified at the shelter and facing euthanasia due to the extent of his injuries, he desperately needed a second chance. Through our Medical Rescue Fund, Atlas Pet Vets was able to provide advanced wound care, Class IV laser therapy, pain relief, and a safe environment for his recovery. With time, care, and compassion, Indy healed both physically and emotionally. Today, he is thriving in a loving home alongside several other rescue dogs.
Squid
Born with a congenital deformity that left his back legs severely twisted, Squid was found in a backyard unable to walk without pain. Atlas Pet Vets was able to provide advanced rehabilitation, including weekly custom splints, corrective orthopedic surgery, and a one-of-a-kind Lego exoskeleton to help him learn to walk normally. Squid’s incredible recovery is a testament to what advanced veterinary care can achieve. Your donations help make stories like Squid’s possible.
Millie, AKA Mara
With a severely broken leg that had gone untreated for nearly three weeks, Mara was scheduled for euthanasia at a city shelter because treatment wasn’t available. Thanks to our Medical Rescue Fund, Atlas Pet Vets was able to provide the advanced surgery she needed, using 2 separate bone plates and 11 screws to save her leg. She is now making an excellent recovery through rehabilitation with our underwater treadmill therapy. She has found joy in her forever home with her new brother Roscoe and is now known as Millie.
