Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities:

Patient Care

  • Apply general knowledge of diseases, conduct physical assessments, and monitor parameters to efficiently triage incoming patients
  • Perform various hands-on procedures, including but not limited to venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, intubation, radiographs, and basic wound cleaning/bandaging
  • Provide compassionate and attentive nursing care to hospitalized patients
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by a veterinarian
  • Set up, monitor, and administer intravenous fluid therapy
  • Conduct laboratory tests, analyze samples, and maintain accurate records of results
  • Maintain detailed and precise medical records

Surgery and Anesthesia

  • Induce, maintain, and monitor patients under general anesthesia and in recovery
  • Perform thorough dental examination, teeth cleaning, and polishing
  • Participate in various surgical procedures, including orthopedic surgeries like TPLO, by scrubbing in to assist the veterinarian with instrument passing and equipment management
  • Assist with equipment and instrument maintenance and sterilization

General Tasks

  • Obtain accurate notes and medical histories of patients
  • Safely restrain animals as needed while ensuring minimal stress
  • Educate clients on preventative care, medication administration, and post-operative instructions
  • Acquire understanding of infectious and common zoonotic diseases, along with preventive measures and protocols to minimize transmission
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock supplies
  • Provide basic instruction and guidance to veterinary assistants, ensuring the highest standard of patient care

Requirements:

  • Valid Veterinary Technician license or certification (will consider equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a veterinary hospital
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
  • Strong organizational skills, adept at multitasking, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Consistently interact with hospital staff and visitors in a professional manner
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, work on the floor, and lift up to 50 lbs

  • Collaborate with veterinarians to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient, incorporating underwater treadmill therapy as part of their rehabilitation program.
  • Safely guide and support animals as they walk on the underwater treadmill, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout the therapy session.
  • Monitor animals during the therapy session, closely observing their movements, gait, and overall response to the treatment.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of each therapy session, including the duration, water level, speed, and any observations or changes in the animal's condition
  • Assist in the setup and operation of the underwater treadmill equipment, ensuring it is properly calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the underwater treadmill and surrounding area, ensuring proper disinfection protocols are followed between patients.

Veterinary Assistant

Animal Care Attendant
